This piano is in extraordinarily good condition. Bechstein pianos have always been in competition with Steinway & Sons, although the Bechstein sound is very different from Steinway's.
From 1881 Bechstein began supplying pianos to Queen Victoria, several being delivered tovarious royal residences.By 1886 they were among the piano manufacturers holding a Royal Warrant as a supplier to the Queen.Bechstein was patronised by the tsars of Russia, the royal families of Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Austria and Denmark, and other royalty and aristocracy. A true prince amongst pianos!
From Hans von Bülow and Franz Liszt through to Oscar Peterson who played and owned a Bechstein throughout much of his career. Up to Freddie Mercury of the rock band Queen who played a Bechstein piano (on the best-selling album A Night at the Opera); The Beatles; and Elton John who recorded "Your Song" and many other tracks on a handmade Bechstein concert-sized instrument that was over one hundred years old. Its classic sound is much sought after.
